Classification

General information...

The subject classification used in the research database offers possibilities for systematic search within different scientific fields and thus provides a systematic access to the contents of the reviewed books and scholarly news in the indexed journals. It is based on a historical classification system which goes back to the encyclopedic structure of the great 18th and 19th century bibliographies, in particular to the Allgemeines Repertorium der Literatur (Jena, Weimar 1793–1807) by Johann Samuel Ersch. Below you find a clickable list of the 17 main scientific subjects with their sub-subjects presented in the form of a hierarchical tree structure.

The subject classification is offered as a tool for systematic search in the projects IdRZ 18 and GJZ 18. The IdZ 18 project does not contain a classification by scientific subjects.

Next to starting your search from the hierarchical tree structure, you can also use the statistical evaluation as a starting point: by clicking on one of the bars you will obtain all the results for that particular science in the entire database. Subsequent faceted search will enable you to refine the obtained results.
